Emissions' reduction plans

In order to contain global warming to an acceptable level, a yearly 3% emissions' reduction is necessary. Since the mechanisms of a business depend very much on its line of business and on the business itself, we propose custom-built action plans, related to the economical and physical reality of each company. To reach this goal, we offer several types of actions:

  • Immediate actions (examples)
    • Increase the staff's awareness to the greenhouse effect and to petroleum depletion in order to increase the number of public transportation users or to build a company transportation plan.
    • Getting an energy diagnosis done for your buildings, followed by an energy-savings policy (setting the temperature to 19°C, installing timers, choosing laptop computers rather than desktop computers, etc).
    • Setting up new rules with your travel agency in order to implement a responsible policy for business trips.
  • Priority actions(examples)
    • Setting up webconference or videoconference equipment for recurrent meetings in order to avoid an excessive number of trips.
    • Renewal of the car fleet with less emitting cars.
    • Creation of typical menus with the cafeteria.
  • Strategic action (examples)
    • Reorganize the logistic chain.
    • Repair the heat insulation and optimize the surfaces.
    • Reconsider the organization in order to adapt it to today's energetic reality.

Consistency of the action plans

Beware of received ideas! The following examples demonstrate the fact that CO2 savings are not always where we think they are:

  • To house your business, you choose an energy efficient building which is located in a neighbourhood far from public transportation infrastructures :
All the efforts done reducing the energy consumption will be cancelled by the raise in the distances of home-work commutes.
  • You decide to drastically reduce paper consumption :

Reducing paper consumption isn't necessarily the first action with which you will obtain significant emissions reductions, even though it should be considered. Trips and energy often are the main items in the carbon footprint of a service sector company. On the other hand, making incentives towards dematerialization can be a good way of increasing the staff's awareness to eco-gestures and reducing the carbon footprint.
